Hello, Friends! The idea of Break of Dawn erupted forth during a trying time for our family in 2011. God gave me a vision and Isaiah 58:8 as a verse to cling to when things seemed so bleak. “Then your light will break forth like the dawn and your healing will quickly appear.” It’s always darkest before the break of dawn, but then the sun bursts forth with the hope of a new day – a breakthrough! Isaiah 58:8 is the inspiration behind the name, Break of Dawn. God is the grand author of the vision for Break of Dawn’s ministry, and it’s been sitting dormant per His request since 2011. In January of 2021, He told me – “It’s time!” Most of the past year was spent fasting, praying, talking to others in the industry, researching, reading, learning, until the exciting day in August when Break of Dawn became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Without further ado, allow me to further introduce you to Break of Dawn! Break of Dawn, Inc., 501(c)(3), is a Christ-centered nonprofit in northern Wisconsin organized to help meet the needs of teen girls and women who have been affected by sexual trauma and sexual violence by providing effective, compassionate, and comprehensive services, along with providing a message of hope and faith, centered on Christ’s message. The corporation will also work to educate communities and individuals about sexual abuse, as well as sex-trafficking and sexual exploitation in our communities. Our short-term goals include extravagant giving to help those in need in our communities, regardless of whether they’ve experienced sexual trauma or sexual violence or not, while working towards our long-term goal to open 1-3 restoration homes. This mission and vision comes straight from Heaven! Our passion, then, comes from exactly 20 years in January of dealing with the effects of my own sexual trauma and working through the pain and process of healing ourselves. We’re also very passionate because we have seen over and over just how many others are struggling with these challenging hurts, as well. Break of Dawn’s foundation is formed on Christ, the Cornerstone, and has pillars of abundant giving and unceasing prayer all while serving the community as the hands and feet of Jesus. We’ll be The Church and God will do the rest! The trio of our burden, our passion, and our calling has now catapulted us into this adventure of starting a nonprofit called Break of Dawn. In addition, God has graciously given us experience and skills that will prove themselves useful. Both my husband and Co-Founder and I have more than ten years each of working with teens, many of them being at-risk. 1 in 3 girls will experience sexual trauma or sexual violence sometime in her lifetime. That staggering number takes my breath away each time I read it! We’re talking about wives, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, cousins, and friends, not statistics. Never in a million years would I have seen myself in that ‘1 in 3’ and, if you would have told my parents their daughter would be included in a sad reality from our culture, they wouldn’t have believed it. But…here we are… Thankfully, God doesn’t waste any of our pain! He’s brought us to a point where we can enthusiastically say, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God!” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Our prayer is that Break of Dawn will be a place where teen girls and women affected by sexual trauma and sexual violence can find Hope Healing Freedom.
